Writer's Statement

As a Latina and Reading native, I thought I knew the community well. I was born and raised here, but I learned so much more about Reading because of this project.  I’ve always been an advocate for the Latinx community, but being exposed to passionate people who want to help Reading thrive whether by making a small or huge impact made me want to join their wave and learn more about this tight-knit community  by getting involved with local organizations like Barrio Alegria. I learn how many members of this community collaborate in various projects to bring outsiders and insiders together and take action in the community with the arts, business and political aspects. As a Latina, I hope to use my writing skills in some way to tell the stories of voices that are often unheard.

Bio

I am Kaylee Carpinteyro, from Reading, Pa. I am graduating in the fall of 2019 with a bachelor's degree in Professional Writing. In my free time I like to read, write and play soccer. I plan to stay involved in the community to use my writing skills and give those who are unheard a voice.
